The Killer Angels
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1975 and one of the first audiobooks I ever listened to.
"The Killer Angels is unique, sweeping, unforgettable, a dramatic re-creation of the battleground for America's destiny."
I was blown away and how thoroughly I was immersed in the battle of Gettysburg. I only wish I had read this book before I went to visit the famous battle site (ask my wife about that experience…). While the book is based upon the historical events that took place, it delves into the minds of the key generals in the critical fight for the nation. But it also captures the thoughts and fears of the common soldier tasked with carrying out the plans of these famous leaders. This book is compelling and very entertaining and allows readers critical insight into what the horrors of the Civil War might have been like. This is truly one of the great historical fiction books written.
