My dad had spoken about this book for years as his favorite. Finally at the age of 24 I took it upon myself to dive in to the unabridged edition and was I grateful I did. The version that I read was over 1400 pages and I honestly felt like it was a page-turner throughout the entire book. The central character of the book is Edmond Dantes, who is falsely accuse of treason, arrested and imprisoned for fourteen years before finally escaping. During his time in prison he meets Abbe Faria who teaches him of life, culture, language, science, mathematics, and helps him to deduce who his accusers are. Ultimately he helps Dantes to escape and thus begins a lifelong quest for revenge. Dumas weaves together an intricate plot that rewards the reader with one of the true classics of all time. I read the book again ten years later and look forward to my next reading soon. It is a time investment that will pay dividends.
