I love Rachel Held Evans and I’m sad I did not find her work until after her tragic death in 2019. At a time when many are leaving organized religion, Rachel documents her journey of leaving her church and struggling to find a deeper, more meaningful faith. This story is relatable to anyone who professes a belief in God as she poses challenging questions that arose in her life and the path she took to answer those questions. Although she was of a different religious denomination than me, I took comfort in her courage, and ultimately her decision to come back to God. Evans’ writing focuses on the seven sacraments as she details a year of poignant stories about baptism, communion, confirmation, confession, marriage, vocation, and death. I look forward to exploring this book in greater depth in future writings.
