Oil and Marble
"Oil and Marble is the story of Leonardo and Michelangelo's forgotten rivalry. Storey brings early 16th-century Florence alive and has entered with extraordinary empathy into the minds and souls of two Renaissance masters."
This is one of those audiobooks that warranted the long way home from work. The author creates a vivid description of the contemporary lives of the Renaissance Masters, Leonardo DaVinci and Michaelangelo, as they toil over their individual masterpieces. Clearly Stephanie Storey took a bit of creative license as she tells the story of these artistic geniuses as they reside in Florence at the same time. But the story she creates is fascinating and immersive. Michaelangelo’s David and DaVinci’s Mona Lisa are clearly two of the most famous works of art created in the history of the world. What I loved about the book was the author’s ability to allow the reader to share in the joys and the sorrows of those creations and experience what it might have been like to walk with those masters. The story is well-researched, well-written and well worth your time.
